Boston's Freedom Trail Foundation helps open
the Rose Kennedy Greenway with the first-in-Boston Fife and
Drum Tattoo (concert), where the Freedom Trail intersects the
Greenway,
Saturday October 4, 1:00 to 4:40 p.m.
Come celebrate the opening of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway
this Saturday, October 4 where the Freedom Trail Foundation
is hosting the first-in-Boston outdoor Fife & Drum Tattoo
(concert) from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Part of the year-long
celebration of the Freedom Trail's 50th Anniversary the concert
it is also part of the all-day events that officially kick off
the Greenway. Don't miss out on this outdoor concert - it's
great for kids and grown ups. The Tattoo will be located at
the North End parcel at Hanover Street.
Tap your toes to the tunes played in Revolutionary America
and let the music take you back down the path of history - right
on the Freedom Trail where the historic events actually happened.
Admire the skill of playing a six-hole fife, rope tension drums,
and snare drums with gut strings stretched across the bottom
that gives them their snap. More than 65 drummers and fifers
will play our history and play it loud at the BIG BLOWOUT at
2:30 p.m.
"We're thrilled to be part of the official opening of
the Rose Kennedy Greenway, where the Freedom Trail crosses it,"
said Mimi La Camera, president of the Freedom Trail Foundation.
We've been celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Trail
throughout the year, and this is a snappy way to merge Boston's
rich history with its newest park. No one has hosted a fife
and drum tattoo in Boston before and it's fabulous that we can
do it to launch the next era of the city's cultural history.
They'll play our history and play it loud!"
